DESCRIPTION:Start date:  24 April 2026\, 13:00 (CEST)   Entry level:
BasicEnd date:  24 April 2026\, 16:30 (CEST)   Subject area:  Artifici
al Intelligence (AI)Location:  ONLINE (Zoom)     Topics:  Explainable
AI (XAI)Language:  English     Target audience:  Industry\, public a
dmin\, academiaPrice:  Free (for eligible participants)     Organizers
:  AI:AT & ASCAs Artificial Intelligence (AI) becomes increasingly woven
into our daily lives\, the need to understand how and why these systems ma
ke decisions has never been more important. This hands-on training builds o
n a previous webinar on high-level Introduction to Explainable AI (XAI) an
d shifts the focus from concepts to practical application. Participants wi
ll work directly with data and models to explore how explainability can su
pport data understanding\, model development\, and result interpretation i
n realistic workflows. The session starts with an end-to-end\, guided exe
rcise on tabular data\, covering exploratory data analysis and pre-model e
xplainability to understand data characteristics and support model justifi
cation. Participants will then train a lightweight model and apply post-ho
c XAI techniques to interpret predictions at both local and global levels.
Building on this foundation\, the training introduces explainability for t
extual data through a lightweight text classification task\, illustrating
how explanation methods differ for unstructured data such as language and
where typical limitations arise. The session concludes with a short showca
se of explainability for an additional data modality (image or time-series
  data)\, highlighting cross-modal similarities\, pitfalls\, and best pract
 ices.The training emphasizes hands-on experimentation\, critical interpret
ation of explanations\, and understanding when XAI supports trustworthy de
cision-making and when caution is required. It is intended as a practical
continuation of the earlier conceptual training.Agenda & ContentFor a deta
iled timetable and additional information\, please see Agenda & Content in
the left menu.Target audience\, eligibility & pricesEveryone is welcome w
ho wants to get a deeper understanding of how and why AI systems make deci
sions. This course is open and free of charge for all participants from aca
demia\, industry\, and public administration from EU and/or EuroHPC JU mem
ber countries.Entry level & prerequisitesBasic – no prior XAI knowledge
is required.Participants are expected to be familiar with basic machine le
arning concepts and python programming\, prior hands-on XAI experience is
not required.Course formatThis course will be delivered as a LIVE ONLINE C
OURSE (using Zoom).Hands-on labsAll participants will get a temporary user
account on one of the ASC systems to do the hands-on labs. You will use yo
ur own laptop or workstation to connect conveniently from your browser to
the ASC Jupyterhub and do the hands-on exercises on a suitable CPU or GPU
partition of the ASC.Accepted participants will be contacted a few days be
fore the course and asked to do a short pre-assignment that has to be comp
leted before the course starts.LecturerAnahid Wachsenegger (AIT Austrian I
 nstitute of Technology GmbH)                      An
ahid Wachsenegger is a data scientist at the AIT Austrian Institute of Tec
hnology\, specializing in artificial intelligence\, explainable machine le
 arning\, data-driven modeling\, and time-series analysis across domains su
ch as forestry and mobility data science. She holds a Master’s degree in
Computational Intelligence from TU Wien and also served as an associate l
ecturer in Media and Digital Technologies at the University of Applied Sci
ences St. Pölten. She is passionate about developing trustworthy\, transp
arent AI systems\, applying data science to real-world challenges\, and su
pporting students and practitioners in understanding and responsibly using
  modern AI technologies.LanguageEnglishDate\, time\, and location24.04.202
