Harmonised standards can help you devote more time to building innovative products by helping you get legal compliance right — one step at a time.
Have you ever looked at the AI Act and wondered: How am I supposed to implement this? In this case, harmonised standards for the AI Act are for you. Harmonised standards contain detailed technical specifications which, step-by-step, lead you to compliance.
This webinar helps you understand what harmonised standards are, how they are different from other types of standards and what you can do with them. We will look specifically into how harmonised standards can be read and applied, then dive deeper into the harmonised standard for quality management pursuant to Art. 17 AI Act. You will learn more about the timeline for harmonised standards, why you might want to get involved in standardisation and how to do it, as well as where you can learn more about harmonised standards.

This webinar is open and free of charge for all participants from academia, industry, and public administration from EU and/or EuroHPC JU member countries.
This webinar is most useful for providers of high-risk AI systems as well as anyone interested in implementing state-of-the-art techniques for ensuring the product quality of their AI systems. Small organisations such as SMEs, as well as organisations unfamiliar with product safety regulation (such as the AI Act), will benefit the most from this webinar.

Speakers
Valerie Hafez (Austrian Federal Chancellery)
Valerie Hafez is a policy officer at the Austrian Federal Chancellery and responsible for implementing the AI Act. She serves as co-chair of the AI Board subgroup on standards and is delegated to CEN-CENELEC JTC 21 WG 2 as an Austrian expert, where she has contributed to EN 18286:2026 (Quality management) and prEN 18228:2026 (Risk management).
Mélanie Gornet (AI Office of the European Commission)
Mélanie Gornet is a Technology Specialist in Artificial Intelligence at the European Commission (DG CNECT, AI Office; Unit A.2 Regulation and Compliance), where she supports the implementation of the EU AI Act, including standardisation activities. In this role, she contributes to the monitoring and review of harmonised standards under development in CEN-CENELEC JTC 21, and provides support for the AI Board subgroup on standards.
