How does AI perceive our 3D world from a few photos? How can it represent it and reason about it? Join us in this deep dive webinar to learn how AI can visually understand.

How does AI reconstruct a 3D scene from a handful of photos? This session lifts the hood on learnable 3D scene representation, aimed at ML practitioners, designers, and persons with a technical interest but not necessarily in computer vision.

We start with inverse rendering, the paradigm that lets us learn 3D structure directly from 2D images, and survey the landscape of how 3D scenes can be represented (NeRFs, point clouds, meshes, … ) before diving deep into Gaussian Splatting: how it works, why it's fast, and what makes it different from neural implicit approaches.

We'll then explore practical applications: 3D reconstruction, infusing semantic meaning into 3D scenes, and text-based scene retrieval that allows querying the 3D world using natural language. You'll leave with a solid, intuitive grasp of how AI learns to perceive and represent 3D space, and where this fast-moving field is headed.

At the end of this session you will:

  • Understand the inverse rendering paradigm and how AI learns 3D structure from 2D images
  • Grasp how the Gaussian Splatting algorithm works under the hood, and why it's fast and efficient
  • See how multi-modal AI methods incorporate Gaussian Splatting to tackle various tasks in an explainable manner

Anyone from industry, public admin and academia interested in 3D Computer Vision.

This webinar is open and free of charge for all participants from academia, industry, and public administration from EU and/or EuroHPC JU member countries.
