This interactive workshop explores key ethical dimensions of AI development, with a particular focus on diversity and non-discrimination. It is designed to support practitioners in critically reflecting on their own AI solutions and translating ethical principles into practical development processes.
In this 1.5-hour session, participants will engage with core concepts of diversity and non-discrimination within AI-ethics, while gaining practical tools to identify and address potential risks and challenges in their projects. The workshops aims at increasing an in-depth understanding where these concepts might occur and why it is beneficial to focus on them.
Key topics include:
- Introduction to AI ethical core concepts related to diversity and non-discrimination
- Ethical reflection in practice: Guided exercises to connect ethical considerations to participants’ own AI solutions
- Recognizing potential unintended consequences, and context-specific challenges
- Collaborative exchange in peer discussion of possible approaches for start-ups

This workshop is designed for practitioners working on AI solutions, including developers, data scientists, and project stakeholders who are interested in reflecting on the ethical dimensions of diversity and non-discrimination in their work.
This course is open and free of charge for all participants from academia, industry, and public administration from EU and/or EuroHPC JU member countries.
Entry level & prerequisites
Basic – A basic understanding of AI concepts is beneficial.

Lecturers
Rodrigo Conde Jiménez, B.A., MPA (AI Factory Austria AI:AT)
Rodrigo is a PhD researcher at the Center of Innovation Systems and Policy of the Austrian Institute of Technology. He holds a B.A. in International Relations from the Corvinus University of Budapest, as well as a Master of Public Administration from the Central European University. His work and research experience showcase his interests in technology regulation, as well as in the development and analysis of policymaking processes in the field of innovation and technology. Currently he is working in topics related to the governance of AI, and AI ethics, and is currently writing a dissertation on the multilevel governance of AI.
Pia Weinlinger, MA (Austrian Institute of Technology AIT)
Pia Weinlinger is Expert Advisor at AIT Austrian Institute of Technology and a member of the AI Ethics Lab at the Center for Innovation Systems and Policy. She holds a master’s degree in science, Technology and Society Studies (STS) with a focus on governance, innovation, and sustainability. Her work is situated at the intersection of technology, society, and governance. Her research includes AI ethics, Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI), and the analysis of the societal impacts of digital technologies. In addition, she evaluates research and innovation funding instruments, supports public institutions and private organisations in developing responsible AI systems, and teaches at the Federal Academy of Public Administration.
Giulia Bianchi (AIT Austrian Institute of Technology GmbH)
Giulia Bianchi is a Research Engineer at AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, where she leads the Machine Learning Group within the AI Task Force. With a background spanning linguistics and AI, she develops LLM-based systems including digital twins, chatbots, and knowledge extraction tools. Her work focuses on ensuring AI systems are not only technically robust but also fair and contextually appropriate across different user groups.
